Workshop on Right of Access to Information in the Sudanese legal system

On Wednesday 2 August 2017, the Department of Training, Scientific Research and External Relations – Faculty of Law – University of Khartoum in cooperation with the National Center for Peace and Development and Friedrich Ebert Foundation – Sudan organized a workshop titled: Right of Access to Information in the Sudanese legal system. The workshop started with a speech by the representative of the Faculty of Law – University of Khartoum, followed by Mr. Axel Plashka, Director of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation – Sudan and a welcome speech by Mr. El-Wathig Al-Berier-General Secretary of the National Center for Peace and Development. The workshop included two sessions: the first session presented two papers, the first entitled: International covenants and instruments in the field of the right to information and legislative harmonization presented by Dr. Mohamed Abdulsalam Babeker – Second entitled: The Right to Information in Sudanese Constitutions and Laws – Mr. Ahmed Abdelkader Ahmed, following on the papers: Mawlana. Ahmed Abuzaid – Mr. Eltayib Haroun – Captain of the Lawyers, followed by a discussion with the audience. The second session also included two papers, the first: The media and the right to access information – presented by: Mr. Faisal Mohammed Saleh. Second: The role of the judiciary in promoting transparency and the right to access information. Mohamed El-Alam Abu Zaid followed the papers: Prof. Ali Mohamed Shammou and then a discussion with the audience. Finally, recommendations were submitted by experts, paper-workers and attendees.
